10 Financial Habits to Give Up Right Now
So we’re on to the second month of the year and you’re still struggling with the financial goals you’ve set for 2019, huh?
No one really said it’s gonna be easy especially if you’ve lived your whole life spending like there’s no tomorrow. But maybe it’s time to pop, lock, and drop ‘em old habits that keep you from reaching your goals. Habits just like these:
1. Going online shopping
How many times have you told yourself that you’re “only looking and browsing” but still ending up with a full cart? Yeah, we’ve lost count too.
2. Uncontrolled Credit Card usage
Just stop. Please. Your credit’s not unlimited. Don’t live beyond your means!
3. Not paying your debts…
Aside from it being totally unfair, you’ll still have to pay your due one way or another! And since you’ve pushed it to its limit, your interest will definitely be sky high. Stop delaying the inevitable.
4. But still applying for other loans.
One day, you’re going to be neck-deep in your debts and cash loans. Let’s just say it won’t be pretty. Don’t say we didn’t warn ya!
5. Not saving
We understand that there are non-negotiable things that you must spend on. But if there are luxuries that you can give up, do so and put it in your savings. Don’t blow up your entire pay check in one day!
6. Making bad investments
We get it. Investments are always a gamble. But if it’s already your third, fourth, or even fifth time investing and nothing still has come into fruition, then maybe it’s time to step back and assess what you’ve been doing wrong.
7. Not tracking your expenses
We cannot emphasize this enough. Expense. Tracking. Is. Important! It will greatly help you monitor and adjust your budget accordingly.
8. Not paying your bills
Sure, you can always get reconnected. But when you keep forgetting to pay your bills (even if you already have the means to), you’re spending unnecessary expenses on extra fees and charges you could’ve avoided if you just paid on time. Not cool.
9. Not having an emergency fund
Emergency funds can seem like a daunting task but it’s going to be good for you in the long run! You never know what can happen. And if your lifestyle only allows you to live from paycheck to paycheck, I’ve got news for you: you’ll have difficulty adjusting in case of emergencies.
10. Still keeping those unused subscriptions
How many times do we have to tell you to disconnect that cable you don’t even use? Or those weekly magazine and newspaper deliveries you don’t even read? Some people might utilize these but take a look at yourself. Do you? Or are you just throwing money down the drain for things you don’t even use?
Of course, you can still treat yourself once in a while – but we really mean “once in a while” and not once every while when you need retail therapy because if you do, then you’re done for.
It’s going to be difficult but keep your goals in mind to stay motivated. You’ll thank yourself for it in the long run!
